Critical Infrastructure Maintenance Delivered with Excellence

This summer, the IMG team achieved an impressive milestone by successfully completing a comprehensive overhaul of both the front and rear axles on the Auckland Harbour Bridge Barrier machine. Not only was this critical maintenance project completed to the highest standards, but our dedicated team managed to deliver it ahead of the projected timeline.

The Auckland Harbour Bridge Barrier machine plays a vital role in the daily operation of one of New Zealand’s most critical transport corridors. This specialised vehicle is responsible for moving the movable barrier system that helps manage traffic flow across the bridge, adapting to peak directional demands during morning and evening rush hours.

Technical Expertise in Action

The maintenance project required specialised technical knowledge and precision engineering to ensure the axle systems were restored to optimal working condition. Our team approached this complex task methodically, working diligently to address every aspect of the front and rear axle systems.

The work involved:

  • Complete disassembly and inspection of the axle components
  • Replacement of worn bearings, seals and other critical parts
  • Precision alignment and reassembly
  • Comprehensive testing to ensure optimal performance
  • Quality assurance checks throughout the process

Client Satisfaction and Teamwork

NZ Transport Agency representatives provided excellent feedback on the project outcome, particularly noting the efficiency and professionalism demonstrated by the IMG team throughout the maintenance process.

“We’re incredibly proud of our technicians who worked on this project,” said our Site Manager. “Their dedication to excellence and ability to deliver ahead of schedule while maintaining the highest quality standards exemplifies what IMG stands for.”

Keeping Auckland Moving

This successful maintenance project ensures the continued reliable operation of the barrier system that thousands of Auckland commuters depend on daily. The Auckland Harbour Bridge carries more than 170,000 vehicles each day, making the reliable operation of its movable barrier system essential for traffic management across this crucial transport link.

The movable barrier system allows traffic lanes to be reconfigured based on demand, with more lanes allocated to city-bound traffic during morning peak hours and more lanes for north-bound traffic during evening rush hour. This flexibility maximises the efficiency of the existing bridge infrastructure.

By delivering this maintenance project ahead of schedule, IMG has helped minimize any potential disruption to this essential traffic management system.
