McRaes Global was selected to carry out the installation of the Winder hydraulic system for Whakatane Board Mill as part of their site-wide upgrades. The main challenges of this project were centered around the equipment to be installed was all second-hand in varying states of disassembly, a very tight time frame in which to complete all installation work during the shut and managing the dynamics of working on such a large project with so many variables.

A considerable amount of time was invested pre-shut assessing how individual components and sub-assemblies tied together to build a complete hydraulic system. This information was then overlayed with 3D models and photos of the plant and equipment to allow us to plan pipe routes and compile material requirements.

The scope of this project rapidly grew to include installation of the filed piping for the lubrication, pneumatic and grease systems also. To meet this demand we were able to call on additional personnel and equipment resources from our Auckland and Whangarei branches.

A successful installation of all systems was carried out under very challenging conditions.
