IMG were commissioned to build a bespoke trial product processing crusher to evaluate an idea, with the goal of designing and building 4 product processing crushers, each to be installed on the Kiln Ironmaking processing plants.

The crusher is a bespoke piece of equipment that is fit for purpose operating in an extremely harsh environment of extreme temperature and an aggressive, abrasive product.

The crusher has created huge savings and efficiency gains for the client and represents a massive step forward in their production process.

Engineering-wise the crusher has rotational components that are water-cooled with strategically positioned and welded teeth with hardened welded facing to provide longevity of components and to provide the capability to facilitate the fit-for-purpose end use of the crusher.

The crusher components required precision machining, welding to high degree of procedural control due to pre heats and volume of weld and finally an expertise approach to final assembly.

The installation of the crushers happened during a Maintenance shut on the Kilns which was delivered a regimented project plan to ensure the installation of crusher assemblies in a highly modified area of the kiln due to the new process to accept the crusher equipment. The installation phase was achieved in the time scales desired and has since commission, provided the desired outcomes for the client.
