ONE OF THE WORLDS’ LARGEST SUPERYACHTS
Abu Dhabi’s ADM Shipyards launched the 462.5 ft. megayacht Yas (ex. Swift 141), which now ranks as the world’s 6th largest, just ahead of Crown Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia’s Al Salamah and David Geffen’s Rising Sun. The vessel was once an ex-naval frigate that was converted into a high-rolling luxury superyacht. The yacht is rumoured to have been commissioned by a member of an Arabic royal family. Yas’s distinctive narrow profile was built on the steel hull of a former Royal Dutch Navy Frigate built in 1978. Her frigate hull and lightweight composite superstructure help to enable the enormous vessel to reach impressive speeds of up to 26 knots.
IMG was a key sub-contractor providing hydraulic and mechanical management and supervision. Our people supervised up to 200 trades staff to ensure the highest quality standards were met. Up to 20 of our staff lived in Abu Dhabi during the project.
Yas was styled inside and out by Pierrejean Design in Paris, with a strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves and volumes, and a spectacular structural covering of glass. She can comfortably accommodate up to 60 guests while modern diesel power and variable-pitch propellers assure a top speed of 26 knots, cruising speed of 20 knots, transoceanic range, and “green” fuel economy. In anticipation of her unusual speed for a yacht of this size, the project was first appropriately named “Swift141.” It has since been renamed to “Yas”.
